More News: Cemaes village gardening competition goes from strength to strength and this year there were a lot of gardens, hanging baskets and containers to look at. Medwyn Williams, ten times Gold Medallist of the Chelsea Flower Show was hard pressed to choose the winners. He was helped by our own highly acclaimed gardener Mike Bailey. Many thanks to both men for their hard work.
This all took place on Thursday 10th July. On Friday 11th July John Woods Vice-Chairman of Wales-in-Bloom came to judge so with all the gardens and containers in tip top condition the village looked a picture. A great many thanks to all those who have picked up litter, strimmed edges, swept steps and generally made the village a joy to visit. Trouble is we will have to do it all again for August 8th when the Britain-in-Bloom judges come round! A lot more children entered the
competition of a garden-in-a-box and their scarecrows were superb. A difficult
decision again for our judges who this time were Mike Taylor and Wally BT from
The Anglesey Lions. The Lions also donated the children's prizes and a cup for
the best scarecrow, which was won by Barry Hutchinson, second prize to Vicky
Griffiths and third prize to Laura Tainton. The same two men judged the adult
scarecrows, which had been placed around the village, and the overall winner was
Washed-up Willy by Jill Cheetham of Tyn Llan. The winner of a garden-in-a-box - Colette Wright Second prize - Victoria Griffiths Third prize - Jacki Hutchinson Many thanks also to Maureen Parry and Di Davenport and the donors for organising and running a fantastic raffle which raised over £200 for the Cemaes-in-Bloom funds. Key
Personnel: First rate small team of workers who are out every week, weeding planting growing, tidying. The original initiative came from Pauline Roberts who for the past 20 year has been planting every available space to improve the look of the village - the spectacular roundabout is entirely due to her hard work and persistence! |
