Wylfa Power Station, owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, has been generating electricity since 1971. Magnox Ltd, owned by EnergySolutions, manage and operate Wylfa Power Station under contract to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The power station provides well paid jobs for local people and contractors and has been a good neighbour to Cemaes Bay supporting many community groups with socio-economic funding and donations for many years. Wylfa’s Information centre offers visitors an interesting day out and its well worth calling in to the centre’s Faraday Cafe where Pam’s home made cakes will not disappoint. Entrance free. For opening hours please ring 01407 711400/733983. For more information about Wylfa Power Station please visit www.magnoxsites.com If you are a contractor looking for accommodation please go to To Let page of the ‘Where to Stay’ section of the web site.
Wylfa Power Station has its very own secret garden along the coast between Cemaes and Cemlyn Bay. The gardens are at their most resplendent in May when they are open to the public during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. You can read all about BBC Wales’ visit to Cestyll Gardens in 2009 here.
Wylfa was elected as a potential new nuclear build site in the UK Government’s Nuclear National Policy Statement which was ratified in 2011. Horizon Nuclear Power is the joint venture organisation who plan to build a 3.3 GW power station at Wylfa.
