Rhosneigr Lifeboat

After a series of
earlier shipwrecks off the Rhosneigr coast, the R.N.L.I. established an
additional station in 1872. A boathouse costing £254 was constructed and in
September of 1872 a 30' x 7'6", 10 oared, self-righting boat arrived. The boat
was named "Thomas Lingham", in memory of the husband of Mrs. Lingham who had
donated £680 to the R.N.L.I. (This was the first of four boats based at
Rhosneigr to be similarly named). Although the lifeboats were involved in many
rescues around the Rhosneigr coast, unfortunately on December 28th 1894, during
a lifeboat launch, a young helper, William Roberts was run over by the heavy
carriage and died of his injuries days later. Sadly, although the lifeboat was
launched successfully, it proved ineffectual in this instance. The Rhosneigr
Lifeboat station closed in 1924.
