| Please be aware that there
have been a few movements in the high street recently and some shop
details may not be correct. We plan to update this page as soon as
possible. In the mean time, if you find some details are incorrect
please notify the owner and request that they get in touch with Brian
upstairs in the Cemaes Bay Heritage Centre to
have the details added/updated or e-mail:

As well as being blessed by two wonderful beaches and
delightful woodland valley walks, Cemaes benefits from facilities that must be
the envy of many other communities on the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys
Môn).
A short walk along the High Street
(Stryd Fawr), starting at
the landscaped roundabout at the top of the village will reveal just what
amenities visitors to Cemaes can avail themselves of during their holiday in
Cemaes and the nearby surrounding district.
|
A few yards down the street, on the right hand
side, you will find the doctors’ surgery. This consists of a recently
constructed, modern building, containing a large, light, comfortable waiting
area, staffed by experienced bi-lingual receptionists as well as two highly
qualified nurses, who assist the four general practitioners based there. Situated
next to the surgery is the local coal merchant.
|
On the
opposite side of the road, facing the surgery, is the Woburn
Hill Hotel, a well established, licensed, family run business, that, besides
being convenient for all the village amenities and country walks, is open to
non-residents for meals, which are served all day.
|
Continuing
further down the high Street, on the left you will pass the Village
Hall. This
building was financed by a ‘local boy made good’, a certain Mr. David Hughes,
who made his fortune when he moved from Cemaes to Liverpool and, on his return,
donated the Village Hall to the villagers.
The large main car park is located
off to the left behind the Village Hall and is free all year round.
Enroute to the carpark is the village ATM and public telephone.
The Village Library is located just behind the car
park.
|
Almost
facing the Village Hall, on the right hand side of the street you will find the
Heritage Centre, within which is situated a
delightful Tea Room, a small exhibition of photographs and artifacts relating to
the bygone days in Cemaes. Upstairs in The Heritage Centre is the
Cemaes
Telecentre (the "nerve centre" for Cemaes Bay website) from where, for a small fee, you are able to ‘surf the Web’ or
check your E-mails or even E-mail your friends back home (well it makes a
change from the usual ‘Wish You Were Here postcard!).
Also available here are further I.T. services provided by BMH
Computers. |
 |
You are now approaching the village centre and the main shopping area. Across from
the Heritage Centre is located
Williams Bakery, where it is possible to purchase Bara
Bryth (a Welsh Fruit Loaf) or sample an Oggie (an oversize Welsh
version of a Cornish Pasty).
 |
Next door to the Heritage
Centre, is the Bethel Chapel, and
just a few yards further down, on the left hand side of the street is located
the village butcher shop.
|
 |
Next door-but-one to the butcher shop is
Cemaes Post Office, which also has a comprehensive stock of
gifts and souvenirs. Travelling further down the street, you will pass the first of the two
greengrocery shops in Cemaes (Siop Ffarm Cemaes)
and also the first of the three hairdressing establishments in the village. |
 |
On the opposite side of the street is located a beauty therapy shop called
'For Hair and Beauty
JJ'S'
Which offer a whole range of beauty treatments from hair removal to tinting,
as well as cutting, colouring and perming. And for special treats why not
treat yourself to one of the many massages available. |
 |
Next is
a Fish & Chip shop (Y
Wygyr) with both eat in and takeaway service, as well as a small
Coffee Shop.
On the opposite side of
the high street is a picture
gallery (Oriel Cemaes) offering a framing service.
|
 |
Opposite the newsagent is the hairdresser Spectrum.
Opposite is Ron's - the second greengrocer in the
village. |
 |
 |
There is a large
Chemist shop and dispensary. |
 |
At the end of the
high street there are two public houses
serving
real ales
and food, Ye Olde Vigour and The Stag. |
 |
 |
Round
the corner leads to the General Store -'Siop Y Bont' and the
bridge over the river Wygyr.
The Harbour Hotel is straight ahead.
Following
the road round to the left is a turning down towards the beach
car park and kiosk.
Enjoy
the view and relax! |
